The God Who Answers Prayers

Psalm 143:1 “Lord, hear my prayer; listen to my cry for mercy. In your faithfulness and righteousness, come to my relief.”

Have you ever wondered if God answers prayers? Or thought that God answered other people’s prayers, but maybe not yours? If you’re honest, truth is, most people have. When we pray and don’t receive a response, or don’t receive it the way we expected it, in our weakness, we may question our access to God.

Before we go any further, let me say that you are adequate and God wants to hear from you. He wants you to know that He is, in fact, answering you. He just needs to you “answer the phone.”

In life, it's easy to have noise. This noise is often distractions and everyday life that keeps us from hearing God clearly. It's the busyness of your job, school work with your kids and so much more. You may feel like you don't have enough time for you, let alone quiet time.

But here's the catch. In order to have a relationship with Christ, it takes effort. Anything worth having is and truth be told, nothing else will reap a harvest like sowing into a relationship with God.

1. You have to clear the noise! Find a time that works best for you and God. Spend that time completely devoted to Him, allowing the Holy Spirit to lead you as you study the Word and pray.

2. Prepare Yourself To Listen. Prayer is not always you talking to God. Sometimes, it's God talking to you! Sit in a quiet place and prepare yourself to hear from Him.

3. Be ready to be obedient. Truth is, God doesn't always answer our prayers the way we expect Him to, but best believe, he is ALWAYS answering. God knows what's best for us, even when we don't. Posture yourself to be ready to do what it is He tells you and you will be truly blessed for it.

4. Pray without ceasing. In Luke 18, Jesus tells a parable about a persistent widow who went to an unjust judge asking for him to give her justice in a dispute with her enemy. The judge ignored her for a while, but she was persistent. After a while, the judge granted her wishes, as she was "driving him crazy." Jesus used the parable to model how we should pray and never give up.

God wants you to know that He hears your prayers and is eager to answer them. You don't have to have the entire bible memorized or be a preacher. He hears YOU. He needs you to get into a quiet place and spend time with Him. God cannot answer your prayers if you don't pray! Your answered prayer is closer than you think!

Have you received an answer to your prayers and didn't realize it? Take a look around you. You prayed for safety, and God kept you protected all throughout the night. You prayed for clarity with your job and things have surprisingly gotten much easier. When God answers your prayers, big or small, make sure to give Him the glory!

We praise God for our victories, because we don't always deserve them. However, God saw fit to keep us and bless us...and for that, we ought to be grateful.

Friend, please know that God loves you. He is always near, ready to answer your call. Clear the noise, find a quiet place, and reach out to your Father. Not only will He answer your call, but I'm confident that He will also answer your prayers.
